This one bothers me more than just about any crime situation we've had in the Atlanta area this year. Seems a man tried to help someone from being mugged and the perp then decides to shoot up the helping man's car (12-15 rounds) with his wife and child in the car. The boy was hit in the abdomen (will likely survive). There is video in this story and it's not easy to watch. Weird hearing the videotaper laughing, but it's possibly from nerves (?).

And people still think we shouldn't shoot armed robbers until they shoot someone.....

"They aren't a threat"

I assume you're referring to quotes people like myself made in another thread, which of course you are obviously misconstruing, either on purpose or because you're being obtuse. There isn't another option.

How is the guy actively mugging someone not a threat?? If the samaritan had shot him then, that would be one thing and perfectly justifiable. When the samaritan confronted him later, he tried to hold him. I assume you are trying to say that when he saw him later, he should have been able to shoot him at that point? I mean, that's my only guess. If he shot him when the guy broke free and pulled out a gun, then no problem.

But if we start allowing shooting of people who we think might be threats, there's going to be a lot of problems. Of course, I don't think you'd see that as a problem, as long as the people who were shot fit your profile.

I do see where you're trying to go with "We know this guy is a threat", but I just think it's a dangerous road to go down.

If a guy sticks a gun in your face and threatens to shoot you and then turns around and supposedly goes in another direction how is he not immediately a threat anymore. That rational is insane.

Again, you are being obtuse and completely disregarding the point, because that is not what I said. Why am I even surprised any more?

The article doesn't say that the gun made an appearance at the earlier confrontation, simply that the good samaritan intervened in a robbery. You know, you can rob someone without a gun. So we don't know if the samaritan knew he was armed in the first place. We don't even know what happened. He might have just said "HEY! Go away" and the guy ran. Obviously it wasn't much if he later saw him at the store. Someone trying to grab a purse is not necessarily a danger and threat to safety.

In the second confrontation, he approached him to try to hold him for police. THAT is when the gun made an appearance.

Now, are you seriously suggesting that he should have just shot and killed him beforehand?
