Or from North Fulton.

I think that's a common assumption but does anybody actually know where the bad guys are coming from? Or how they get to their prey or make their escapes?

1. They come from all kinds of areas...we know that criminals are not all hoodrats.

2. They either have a car or they steal one.

Like I said, no time for hasty generalizations about a particular part of the city. Good and bad people are in each part of the city. In keeping with the original topic that I started. Atlanta is growing up, I will use myself as a personal reference. I served in the Marine Corp, and have traveled to at least 60 cities worldwide. I have truly seen some great cities that only New York City could measured up too from the United States. However Atlanta with its design and layout (particularly the beltline) is in a great position to continue to grow organically from the core part of the city. I never imagine that I would buy a beautiful renovated home in the West End area. I could have easily went to the surburbs, be stuck up, endure horrible traffic, etc. It's so easy to focus on the bad that occur in the City of Atlanta, but the good is far better. The city of Atlanta has amazing potential, and as a new resident of historic West End, I'm glad to be one of those that will be a part of Atlanta's transformation. So until you have the patience or experience to help change the hood at least from your point of view. Don't criticize it! I so wished each critical person could serve in the Marine Corp and experience a third world country and war zone, believe me no perceived ghetto part of Atlanta would ever compare. I'm speaking from experience as one who dearly love Atlanta and its current transformation.

there's a great quote from rebbe schneerson (chabad) that really applies to atlanta that someone sent me last week:

"If you see what needs to be repaired and how to repair it, then you have found a piece of the world that G-d has left for you to complete. But if you only see what is wrong and how ugly it is, then it is yourself that needs repair."

i view atlanta as our part of the world to repair. in addition to creating a more vibrant city, there are a lot of individuals around here who are struggling to make it everyday. it's difficult for me to remember sometimes that our neighbours are our responsibility to take care of.

This is true. Atl has some of the worst unsuspecting-looking suburbs.

The neighborhood may look nice & quiet, but that's not always the case. Similar to the suburbs surrounding every gentrified city in the US
