My wife and I moved our family here in July 2008 from Detroit. I fell in love with S. Fulton over the last 3 years I had been visiting my family in Atlanta. When the housing market was booming this area was exploding with new homes, schools, businesses, retail, etc. Now that the housing market and the economy have all tanked, all that growth as slowed if not stopped. In hindsight view, I would have preferred to move to North Atlanta in either East Cobb or North Fulton given the better schools and the fully developed area.

Here's the problem I have: I live in a subdivision that was not complete and the builder has pulled out of Atlanta so my subdivision may never be complete. It appears all the plans for local retailers have been halted as well. Therefore, I have a commute to all major retailers. The corner of South Fulton Parkway and Campbellton-Fairburn Rd was supposed to well stocked like Camp Creek with retailers and restaurants on all 4 corners of that intersection. It appears all those plans are stalled.

I am growing tired of the commute for everything down to gas stations.

If I were you, I'd stay in the areas you are in until things pick back up and more development re-starts.

Good: It's not Clayton County.
Bad: It's still Fulton County.

Perhaps I am a little off post here, but I have been reading post after post containing advice, rather...complaints, about the schools in a particular area. Just out of curiousity - when parents are disenchanted with the school in their area, before wisking them off to private school, do they take a stand and fight? Prior to beginning my relocation to this area I attended a PTA meeting at Renaissance Middle School. I couldn't believe the attendance! All of a dozen parents showed up to the meeting. I just grow tired of hearing people complain yet do nothing to change the situation. I am not saying that this is always the case, but it happens far too much. I am on the Executive Board of the PTA at my kids school in NYC. I hear the same responses from parents all the time: they complain about this and that...but ask them to show up for a meeting or volunteer for an event, whereby showing a strong parental presence. Needless to say, they can't be found! Do they run to private schools because deep down inside they perceive it as less work? I just get a little annoyed from time to time, so please forgive me if I have offended any of the hard at work parents volunteering in their child(ren)s education by being involved, actually involved, in the school.

DR Horton is building a lot of new homes in South Fulton. But no retail, no Publix, and no diversity. I feel bad for people who bought million dollar homes in Le Jardin.

There are actually two Publixes, but yeah you’re right about the diversity, it’s possibly the least diverse area in the metro.
