1. Budget: up to $1400/mo, I imagine. I understand that rental prices vary widely. Of course, saving money on monthly rent is always best.
2. House/Condo/Townhome?: Single Family Home. No attached homes/condos or apartments.
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home): Commute to SW Atlanta area. Zip code: 30331 most likely.
4. Children(public school vs. private): College aged son working on Engineering Degree. Would appreciate a close college offering such a degree and/or manageable commute to college, if possible.
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two: Suburban lifestyle.
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not?: Would be nice, but would be for fun/pleasure trips and not necessary for work. If necessary, public transit to an Engineering college would be nice.
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood.: Low crime rate; safe/easy to walk/bike around & safe to park vehicle in driveway, if/when necessary.

Hubby would not relocate until March or April 2011. We understand that traffic can be horrible in the Atlanta area, so a neighborhood in SW Atlanta area would be best.

Where is your child in his degree? Also, you do know that you won't qualify for in-state tuition the first year, right? It may be more affordable for him to stay in California for a year while you get residency established.

Thank you both for your replies. My son is finishing up his 2nd year of college. No, I did not know what the state tuition qualifications were. Thanks. I will keep trying to find "for rent" websites for the 30331 zip code, then. I just have not found anything off hand yet. : )

In zillow, you can filter to look for just the "for-rent" homes. Many websites (realtor, coldwellbankeratlanta) will show the "for rent" homes.

Get in touch with a realtor in the area. They can set you up on an automated search to notify you of things as they become available. There's plenty to choose from these days!

Hi, we moved from SoCal to Atlanta about a month ago and are currently renting. Your best bet is to call up a real estate agency in Atlanta and have them give you a password to the website that they have that lists all properties (don't remember what it's called). Also look on Craigslist. Than come visit and take 2-3 days to see all the homes. Trust me on this, we went through a nightmare in renting a home! The real estate agents here really seem to drop the ball often when it comes to rentals.
