This is sadly representative of the impression Atlanta has generated with garbage like "Real Housewives" and the rap/hiphop industry. This is not the type of image many of us are willing to say we're proud of.

I listened to Special Ed this morning on the way to work wondering to myself, what happened to this kind of music, the kind when or rap that was for the most part clean and clever. I was in High School, wearing a flat top, blasting Special Ed, MC Lyte, PE, and BDP through a Punch 45 and 12" woofers.
Except that there is positivity rap music out there. It's just not mainstream, which is understandable.

And I remember the Special Ed and BDP days. There was plenty of vulgar and explicit rap in those days. In fact, some of it was worse than what you'll hear today. 2 Live Crew anyone?

True, 2 Live Crew and NWA were probably the first vulgar rap groups. However, there was plenty of alternatives to those extremes. Now, everything out there is about selling dope, drinking __________ liquor, driving ___________ cars, strippers, hot tubs and other foolishness.

No, EVERYTHING is not about that. That's what I'm saying. If you do nothing but listen to the radio, then that's all you'll hear. Good music has to be sought out nowadays.

True. I guess what I should say is the mainstream rap is about those things. I suppose that is why I listen to oldies and talk radio.

It reminds me of the old adage about advertising, however. It doesn't matter whether people are saying good things or bad things about you, as long as they're saying something.

These shows are pretty inane, but I'd rather have RHOA than Real Housewives of Charlotte or Real Housewives of B'ham.

Uhh, why should Atlanta have to feel sorry or ashamed for shows like RHOA or images displayed on BET? I don't see any of the other cities apologizing for it. The Housewives is supposed to be about shallow, materialistic women. It in no way is meant to represent the whole city. Duh! Only an idiot would believe everything they see on television.

And for those so uncomfortable with black "culture", move to Seattle already.

For me it doesn't have anything to do with the RHOA being black.
