Has anyone ever plead in absentia to a traffic ticket?

I was in a very minor accident (no injuries, no damage to my car, bumper damage to other car) and was issued a citation for "Failure to maintain lane." According to the ticket and the municipal court website, I can't just pay the fine. I have to appear in court because there was an accident.

Bottom line: I absolutely cannot appear in court. I am starting a new job in Maryland in 2 weeks. I can't take time off to go to court without losing my job. I don't want to contest the ticket, and my insurance is already working to pay for the damages to the other vehicle.

The municipal court website has something about plea in absentia. Is this different from just paying the ticket to avoid a court appearance? Has anyone ever done this? Is it difficult to be approved? Thanks!

Sorry, but no one here can dispense legal advice about tickets or what to do regarding ticket plees. That opens a can of worms regarding the law. There are countless lawyers listed in the yellow pages that will offer advice (sometimes free to a point) for traffic issues. Please consult a legal professional for this type of advice.
