Hey..I am a associate graduate with an IT major from Cincinnati.I am in my late 20s who is dying to move to Atlanta this fall..My question is as far as relocating:

Is is better to live by yourself or with roommates? And if so what are some roommates meeting websites? And how can I go about finding the right roommate?
Are there a lot of IT Help desk analysts careers located there?
How much should I save up for relocation?
What area in Atlanta would be considered a nice area for single young professionals who like to get involve with the nightlife?

ProMove Apt locator service might be the best option for housing/roommates.

You would need to begin to research jobs in the IT field and secure a position prior to relocating to optimize the move to Atlanta. 6 months/1 yr in savings.

Many young professionals live in Midtown and the adjacent areas, Buckhead/Lenox, Perimeter, Smyrna/Vinings and downtown/Atlantic Station.

As an IT professional myself trying to make the move down to Atlanta, let me tell you what I've encountered so far. I've been searching since late April-May and have not been able to land anything to this point, however I already have a decent IT position so no worries there.

I have my resume on the major job boards such as monster, careerbuilder, and the likes. If you don't already, get yourself a LinkedIn profile.

To this point I've been getting a lot of fishing calls and emails from recruiters and other job agencies for short term to hire contract positions which they never follow up on. They ask if you're interested and to send them a resume with salary req's. You do all that and they never get back to you.

I don't know if not finding a job in Atlanta is just the sign of the times during this recession, or if the Atlanta IT market is weak. All I can say is it's taking longer than I expected. As far as what to save for relocation, I say at least enough to cover moving expenses, i.e, moving fan, 1st & last months rent, security deposit (if needed), enough to turn on the lights and cable, some food for the fridge, and a few dollars in reserve (if possible). Going down with a job in place is optimal as at least you don't have to worry about how you're gonna pay next months rent. I say with everything I mentioned...I say about $1,500 - 2,000. If you have nothing to move but yourself then that figure decreases dramatically.

Hit me in the PM section and we can exchange info. Since we're both looking to head to Atlanta we can help each other out.
