I have always wanted a boat to live on and maybe it's time.
Many areas of the country to do this but I was curious if this is allowed at Lake Powell and I could not find an answer to the question. Can you live on board year round on your boat?

Here's what I know about Lake Powell:

The marinas are run by the Park Service concessionaires. You can get an extended slip rental at Antelope Point but I doubt they will let you live aboard year round.

The way to be certain is to call and find out.

In our area (San Francisco Bay) many of the marinas that used to host live aboards have disappeared, the land handed over for redevelopment. Lots of inexpensive housing was lost.

We too are tempted by the houseboat bug from time to time.

I did call the National Park Service. The employee I talked to said that she would get back to me as she did not know. When she did not respond I called and left a message on her phone. Still no answer after 2 weeks.

They may not have a "rule" for that. But The extended slip rental makes it sound like docking at the marina would be limited time only. There's probably nothing to stop you from living out in the lake. There would be other problems, with that though.

I suspect the short answer is no. But I'm curious if anybody knows for sure as well.

- The Orange Toxic Waste Spill from Colorado is on it's way to Lake Powell and Lake Mead.

I was undecided whether to bring my boat out west....but sold it instead. Good choice.

I am really surprised it's so difficult to find an answer to the question.

Ken, give the houseboat rental place a call and see if they can help.

Did not think of calling one of the Marinas but that's a good idea, thanks.

Quick answer....I own a houseboat and it's on a slip at Wahweap.
"Technically " you aren't supposed to live on it full time, but.... I know several who do.
Our boat has power, and water connected so in theory you could.
Personally, I have stayed on it for 8 weeks last summer, occasionally coming into phx for a day or two, and no one ever even batted an eye. The boat was in the slip the whole time also.
I have a few friends that live on theirs full time at Lake Pleasant also.

TNX for the information.
I suspected that it might be illegal as such but many do it and it's just ignored.
