Hi there,

I am new to this forum. Due to a job in Yuma we will be relocating soon (less than a month). Searching in the web I saw a house in the Barkley Ranch that we would like to rent. The area seems to be very nice... but I am concerned mostly with surrounding neighborhoods (if it is safe), shopping, close to hospital, good preschool, restaurants. Also I have seen that the Mesquite Elementary School have great reviews as far as academics but is it truly good? My son is almost five and will go to kindergarten starting the next cycle.

Please any advice would be great!!!

Sincerely, Yuma-Bound

(Note: I understand that Yuma brings mixed reviews -both positive and negative- to people but we are determined to make our stay in YUMA the best experience )

The Barkley family is one of the better known farming families in Yuma and the subdivision is on the site of there former farm/ranch. It is a newer development and I think it is quite nice, with upscale homes. It is located on the Southwest edge of town, close to Mexico and the Colorado river. Last time I saw it, there was still farmland on the western side of the development.
I cannot comment on the school since I don't know anything about it. Distance to the hospital is probably a 10 min drive max, faster in an emergency.
No real shopping or anything else down that way, you will need to get closer to the city center to get that. The closest grocery store is probably Albertsons on Ave B/24th street or Food city on Ave B/16th street. Most likely 3-4 miles depending on what part of Barkley ranch you live in.

Thank you Curly for your reply. It seems that this subdivision might be our future home. Just need to check on the school.
