My husband and I are looking for a nice place to retire, someplace warm ( yes we used to live in Las Vegas), close to family in Las Vegas and California and no or very little snow as we live where there are bad winters right now. We are seriously looking at Kingman AZ. So I have been on city-data lurking and I see alot mentioned about wind in kingman but I can not find good sata on actual real wind amts. I mean is it going to blow us over or is it a constant breeze? Any info will help.

From: Average Weather For Kingman, Arizona, United States - WeatherSpark

Quote:
Wind

Over the course of the year typical wind speeds vary from 0 mph to 22 mph (calm to fresh breeze), rarely exceeding 28 mph (strong breeze).
The highest average wind speed of 11 mph (gentle breeze) occurs around June 15, at which time the average daily maximum wind speed is 22 mph (fresh breeze). The lowest average wind speed of 7 mph (light breeze) occurs around January 5, at which time the average daily maximum wind speed is 13 mph (moderate breeze).
I can't verify this because I live in Mohave Valley, but it sounds about right.

the wind isnt a problem.....it's when it stops and fall face forward...

Ive lived in Las Vegas for 50 years.....eastern Colorado for 20 years before that and actually do't mind the wind in Kingman....somedays hard...somedays not....we have just purchased a house there and will be moving in about 2 months....the wind wasn't even a consideration for us.

Nope, not constant, and it won't blow you over. What chaindrive posted looking about right. It does not blow every day.

The wind used to bother us when we first moved to town. Except for the front yard which was landscaped, the entire rest of the yard was dirt. So when the wind kicked up, the dirt blew around making it unpleasant to be outdoors. Plus the sand would actually blow past the windows onto the window sills. We landscaped the rest of the yard and covered up ALL the dirt and that completely fixed our problem. After that, we hardly noticed the wind.

that was what we thought. We have found that in warm climates the wind can actually "cool" things off some, so it sounded to us like a good thing, but gosh so many ppl were complaining about this "horrible" wind so it made us alittle nervous.

We plan on coming out for a extended visit this year to research more ( we have been thru town many times) We ride motorcycles for fun and this seems like a perfect spot for us. Harley dealership in town, Good HOG group ( harley owners group), close to our two son's ( but not too close), warm weather, open roads.

Yeah, you'll fit right in. I too had ridden my motorcycle (BMW) through Kingman any number of times over the years on cross-country rides and usually gassed up there. It was always one of those sleepy little towns where you wonder what people do there. Fast forward a few years and there I was. For work no less! We were there for 5 years but had to move away for a job transfer again. I'd go back in a heart-beat.

I've been in Mohave Valley for 18 years and unfortunately the wind doesn't "cool" things off unless it's winter and it makes you freeze. Might be different in Kingman though; I don't get up there much.

My husband and I ride as well. In Kingman it'll be slightly different, but where I live if you ride in dead summer you can't breath, it's so hot.

If you come out this year come out during July or August (hottest months). Winter is a breeze (no pun intended) compared to those two months.

The River Run must be going on Right Now. We enjoyed it when we spent the winter/spring in Bullhead City area.

2012 Laughlin River Run Official Site

The wind feels pretty good in the early summer, but not winter/spring when i'm fishin'.

The River Run ended today. So we now go back to business as usual.

I work at a casino and we will go back to normal.
