Have you checked out Bountiful Baskets? Their website says:

"Bountiful Baskets Food Co-op is completely volunteer run. Every site has been started by a volunteer who wanted Bountiful Baskets available in their community."

and:

"It’s about 2 to 4 hours of work for each co-op distribution."

If you're interested in something different, you may wish to pose your question as a new thread on the Phoenix forum, rather than on the general Arizona forum. It will be more visible to Phoenix-area residents there.

Good luck!

I am from the mid-west and live in AZ. I would recommend Tucson. It's not as HOT as phoenix. If you want small town- i love Sierra Vista ( SV) and Bisbee AZ or patagonoia. They are outskirts of Tucson. When I lived in SV, there was a farmers market every week and weekend. Totally loved the flea market and also food vendors - it's also more a ranching/ farming town. I also came out here looking for the same. Unfortunately my job took me to PHX. Oh yeah, Bountiful basket and I think there were other such stuff available in SV. I think the whole town might be. 16-20 mile radius. Ha ha!

How do you start a co-op? My ideal would be yurt living, pet chicken maybe, and growning some food. I am a soap and lotion maker and sell at the farmers market now and then here in PHX.

Also consider Ojai, CA and the Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez valley area, San Luis Obispo area. Or Flagstaff, Sedona, Show Low area.

"Does anyone want to start a co op in AZ Phoenix?"....if no co-op is available, try the next best thing... Azure Standard....get your items delivered to a "drop point" in your area.

It's AZ I think you expect too much. Their parks are concrete and bike lanes and sidewalks barely exist. You're almost better off swinging by a home depot and hiring some Mexicans for the day to build you a garden. Watch out for poisonous snakes and spiders and the like.

You can read about the whole foodie southern Arizona community that supports Tucson and made it UNESCO's first City of Gastronomy in the US. Here are two articles:

Tucson Designated UNESCO World City of Gastronomy — Edible Baja Arizona Magazine

and
