My Husband Is Posibly Getting A Job In Morenci, We Currently Live In Lakeside Arizona. What Is The Area Around Morenci And Surrounding Areas Like? What About Safford/thacher? Which High Schools Are The Best? What Stae Offices Are There In These Areas. I Work For Des/faa And Want To Keep My Retirement Benefits. Do The Schools Participate In The State Retirement Program? Any Info About The Areas Would Be Appriciated. Thanks In Advance. Teri

I take it he is getting a job with Phelps Dodge. You will miss Lakeside. Morenci, Thatcher, Safford, Duncan are all about the same. Most people live in Safford and communte the hour drive to Morenci. It's really small. I lived in Safford went to EAC in Thatcher. The towns are growing. Great family towns. Most people are either catholic or mormon. Almost all counties have state offices so if you work for Az State than you should stick with a State agency. They have DES and FAA. Schools are run by cities not counties or state departments.. The state funds the Schools but usually the city themselves run the schools. Has far has high schools they are all pretty much the same. Most people either go to Safford High- my brother went there or Thatcher- my sister in law went there. I believe Clifton, Morenci, go to the same highschool and then there is Duncan. Since your used to Lakeside I would stick with Safford. EAC gets a lot of kids from the rim country so dont be surprised if your kids run into them. (Eastern Arizona College). That area is just like up north, smaller without the winter. Most of the kids hunt, fish or go up to MT. Graham for a day of fun. Lots of community activities. There is lots of the same things there as up north, teens getting bored, pregnancy etc. The landscape of the area is high desert. It has trees and grass but not pines unless you go up to the mts. The most drawback about the entire area is that it is so far away from any major city. 2-3 hour drive to the closest mall or the valley. That got old real quick. At least up north you can go over to Flag if you wanted to. Alot of people go into New Mexico for shopping. Hope this helps.
