Where Should I Live In Ann Arbor? (best cities, apartments)

I'm looking for a safe area to live in Ann Arbor that would also allow for great access to some bike paths. (Ideally, I'd like to be able to live there without a car!)

Is there any specific areas in (or near) downtown that will allow for this?

Phriend....virtually the entire city of Ann Arbor is connected by nature and bike paths, there are many miles of trails in and around the city. Many people live in the city without a car. Parking your car virtually anywhere in the city will cost you 1.50/hr regardless if it is a meter or structure, so there is another benefit. No matter where you choose to live the crime is very low, of course the college being there will contribute to petty crimes, but serious crimes are really absent in the ann arbor area. A good place to live is near north campus, loads of turn of the century homes with awesome lofts, the highway corridors have new apartments but are a little pricey. Near downtown there is a new condo development that is finishing soon, those are around 225K if you want to buy. Lots of people opt for renting a loft on the west side, short walk to school and many employers and prices are not insane. Hope this helps.

Housing isn't cheap, but you're very close to downtown, certainly a bike ride away.
