Hi,
I have lived in Alaska for about 7 years now and have always been in the Chugiak/Eagle River area. My daughter is going to Mirror Lake Middle school and it has been a fantastic experience for 6th grade.
However, we need to move into Anchorage. I'm wondering if any Anchorage residents could share thoughts on the best middle schools/high schools and areas to raise kids in Anchorage. This is one of my main concerns with moving in Anchorage. I am currently working as a substitute teacher and somehow, I have never ended up in middle schools that seem to be as positive a place as where my daughter is now. This could be because I have mainly done elementary school subbing and only subbed at about 3 middle schools We aren't wealthy so we have to find a middle ground so to speak.
I really would love to have some input-middle schools and safe areas to raise kids.
A good band program is a huge plus too. Thanks in advance

Well I went to Chugiak Jr/Sr High when it was a little school in the middle of nowhere... Now it is a monster of a school...

I would assume that all the schools in Anchorage are pretty much the same now. East High is maybe the best or tied with Service because of the Neighborhoods, maybe Service..

Seems like all the kids in this age group are pretty jaded. It's kind of sad. My daughter goes to Romig.

Gobrien, you are so right. My daughter, fortunately doesn't fall into that category and she has been able to find some sweet friends out here-I have been pretty horrified by what I have seen subbing-and I'm not uptight or anything, there are just a lot of jaded, sad kids out there. Maybe I can convince hubby to stay in the ER area, it seems a tad better here.
