Hello,
I have a 2009 BMW hardtop convertible that I need to ship to California. However, the car sits low to the ground would require a pallet for the car to sit on it. So, the quote that I got last time would be 1600 to Seattle and 2800 to Los Angeles by ship.

I have considered selling the car, but it would be a hard sell because it is 2 years old with 3000 miles.

Would you know of a shipper that would offer a more reasonable quote? I have heard that they can put a car on a semi and drive, but I do not know of a company that can do this.

This is what the car looks like.

Thanks.

I've never used them so I don't know what they charge. I've only been by their yard on Gambell & 46th and watched them load cars onto trailers:

It would honestly probably be cheaper to pay someone to drive it down there and then pay for them to fly back up here. While you would be putting miles on the car, it has so low of mileage on it already I don't think it would make too much of a difference.

Good luck!

Best thing to do: ship to seatlle, or put it on a ferry and drive the rest of the way.

A friend shipped their car down to down about 5 years ago, and after a lot of research found the least expensive way $400 at the time, was by ship. Apparently there are a lot of cars shipped there that come back empty. It had to be picked up in Tacoma at the port, Seattle doesn't handle cars from ships unless they fit in a container. I just checked the company for current rates, and it's $1,799 to Anchorage, but $1,299 to Seattle so still cheaper this way.

I got the car shipped for little over $1600 and drove another vehicle all the way to CA. The car arrived last week with scruff marks on bumper. I wished they used something to clear the front or let me know what happened as the damages were there before it reached port in Tacoma. Oh well, at least the car made it through...

Thanks all!

We once shipped a Scout down from Delta Junction to Seattle for $500 and we were allowed to fill it with whatever. But that was a local guy that drove produce back from Seattle to Delta for the local IGA and needed to make money on the way down so he shipped cheap.
