Don't forget Tom Collins! Gin with sweet & sour in a tall glass, topped with a cherry. One of my favorites from waaaay back.

I went to a Xmas party with my wife at an Irish Pub a couple years ago and ordered one. I'm not sure it was actually a Tom Collins, but it was pretty good. I let my wife and my friend try it (none of us knew what it was before then) and about an hour later 3/4 of the entire bar were drinking it!

Actually, a great version of gin and tonic, is Hendricks, tonic and a slice of cucumber. I am not really a cucumber fan and I love this drink.

Favorite gin cocktails:
- Aviation (for me, this is the perfect blend of tart citrus, herbaceous gin, and a touch of floral and fruit. Easily one of my favorites.)
- Martini (of course), just slightly dirty.
- Salty Dog (i like mine garnished with rosemary)
- French 75
- Corpse Reviver #2
- Gin + Tonic
- Gin Fizz

Of course there are plenty more, but those are some of my faves.
Ok, I read this earlier today and ordered an "Aviation" at dinner this evening. It was not the pale blue/violet color expected but it was very tasty. I am going to try ordering it again, maybe at a different bar.

I buy gin a few times a year for making Gin and Tonics ever since I came of age back in the early 90s. My dad drank them my whole childhood (70s, 80s).

While I never thought of them as being especially fashionable, I find the idea that gin is thought of as some sort of 'lost beverage', and that Gin and Tonics are an obscure drink from a distant age, to be a ridiculous notion.

I'm a big fan of Gin & Tonic on a hot day.

I remember ordering a Sloe Gin Fizz in my early days of bar hopping. Delicious!

Any other cold weather suggestions? With gin's spicy undertones I would think it could lend itself to some holiday drinks.

The Last Word - my absolute favorite!
(gin, chartreuse, maraschino cherry liquor, lime)

Having initially started with too-sweet, 'candy cocktails', it's been refreshing to find how sophisticated a good cocktail can be. The 20's and 30's seemed to have this down. Gin was something I initially didn't care for, but having it in the right cocktail really gives you an appreciation for how good it can be.

Lol, never heard of those (bolded).

Great list!

My dad was a big gin drinker his whole life, too. The first time you taste it is an experience, lol. But it grew on me, and I would have a martini with him once in a while. Now that he's moved on to that great gin joint in the sky, I still drink it occasionally. Someone told me that, at those times, he's probably looking down at me, nudging people, and saying, "That's my girl." lol
