I lived in Seattle, Woodinville, for a couple years during the mid 1980's. I loved living there. I was a Mountaineer (i.e. belonged to the Mountaineers organization) and every week end i could choose from a number of natural activities. I like the weather. For natural beauty and the positive ions generated by all of the water, I see Seattle as The Emerald City it is.

I may rent for a year, my budget is around $1000 to $1500 per month. It is myself and my girlfriend I'm 60 and she is 57. I will look for a place to buy. I will post further about buying after I have relocated. I'm a Tax CPA and my business is in Los Angeles. I only need to be around Los Angeles a few months out of the year. Eventually I could relocate my business. Im close to semi retirement anyway.

It is just the two of us. Can I get some quality recommendations for neighborhoods and value for my dollar. I dont need to be near downtown. However, it might be fun to live downtown. Im guessing I could go as far north as Everett. I guess Tacoma would be my radius on the south. To the east I'm unsure, because you have a ferry system. One plus is seeing beauty, either urban or natural everyday. My preference is for natural beauty.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations

Hmm... To the east, we have the mountains, no need for the ferry system

Honestly, I think you just might like Poulsbo-- which is to the west and would require the ferry (or you could take the long way down through Tacoma then up to Seattle). An awesome cute little town with lots of Norwegian influence, close to the mountains, on the cove.

On the "mainland", I guess you could check out Normandy Park, Carnation, Snohomish, Black Diamond, the (uncrowded) parts of Issaquah.

Come back to Seattle, you will love it again. The Historic North Everett Neighborhood is sort of a secret, lovely homes in a vintage, quiet connected area. Great prices for what you get! Just below is the second biggest public marina on the West Coast. Charming town, 35 minutes to Seattle without traffic.
