Depends on the situation. Generally $1 or $2 per drink or 20%. However, I have tipped waaaay less than 20% in the past and it wouldn't bother me one bit to do it again if the service is not good.
As an example, I went out with friends the other weekend to a bar that wasn't serving your typical beers. In fact, me and my gf recognized maybe 2 brands that we didn't especially like and asked the bartender for his opinion (cus thats what bartenders are supposed to f'n do). He said he couldn't help us out at all because he doesn't drink. So we chose something that we didnt end up liking particularly well. A few mins later, my friends were caught in the same dilemma yet their bartender offered them samplers. WTF? We finished our beers, asked her for samplers and tipped her well. As for our bartender, I think I tipped him $1, if that.
Bartenders and anyone else in the service business should not expect anything for simply retrieving our order. I don't pay my dog every time he does that. We tip based on the service. You don't like it, get another job. In my situation, our bartender could have offered us samplers and it would have helped a ton.
