I play a "game" with a friend of mine. When we go to one another's home, we share our favorite bottle of wine for $15 or less (usually $10 or less). What are some of your favorites?
This is my favorite red available at Trader Joe's for about $5.99 a bottle.
Personal favorite is regrettably a very limited distribution. McPherson Roussanne, 2010. $14. Link is to 2011, but I still have a couple 2010s.
Red: St. Clair (NM) cab-zin. $12. Unfortunately my reds tend to cost a bit more, or free (nothing unfortunate about that, my sister works at a California winery).
George, Blackstock just north of Atlanta had some affordable and excellent quality reds when I visited a couple years ago.
Hard to beat Chileans wines for the value. Incidentally I priced a Santa Rita Carmenere at $10.50 today. Always found Santa Rita 120 to be a consistent buy, for their reds and their chardonnay.

I feel the same about Argintina wines. We happen to love Norton's Melbac..It is about $9.00 a bottle here and about $10 at Trader Joe's in NV, but it is $15 in Canada. For an everyday wine we like Raymond Hill from Trader Joe's. It is around $6 for a 1.5 liter and isn't 1/2 bad. Trader Joe's has a lot of good wines, for $5 to $8 a bottle.
Right now it's Lobster Point Sauvignon Blanc 2011. I believe it's made by Tussock Jumper Wines (New Zealand). I find that there are generally two types of Sauvignon Blanc, fruity or minerally. This one is more on the fruity side, with just the right amount of acid to feel refreshing on a hot summer day.
I have a few bottles of Robert Mondavi Merlot at home. Its probably the only wine I have liked so much that when I am craving a wine I will always pick it up if they have it in stock.
