So I live in Iceland and the selection of bourbon here is really crap. We pretty much only have Jack and Jim, plus a few other brands like bulleit and maker's. And that is pretty much it.

But the wonders of the internet means it's possible to import stuff from abroad. And I was wondering if you have any suggestion for good bourbon that can be bought online and shipped to Iceland.

Regretfully, taxes here on alcohol are crazy (88 US dollars per liter of pure alcohol! And that is BEFORE the 24% sales tax/VAT.) so that puts a rather nasty cap on how expensive it can be. I would say that about 70 US dollars is the most I would be willing to pay for the alcohol and shipping combined. I can't really handle more because of the insane taxes

I'm not an expert , but I do enjoy Bourbon. I like Old Charter 8 year old. I haven't been able to compare it to the high priced stuff. I liked Old Charter 10 year old better, but it has been discontinued.

Trout, we really do need to house swap someday. Bourbon is one of the few things they actually do right down here. I drive by Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, Maker's Mark, Four Roses, and I don't know how many other distilleries on an almost daily basis. And if you really are developing a tooth for it, you need to come down here and try the local craft bourbons. You may never draw a sober breath again as long as you live, but you'll die with a smile on your face.

I don't get the love for Maker's mark. That stuff just tastes rough and vile for me. To a point where I can't even drink more than a couple of glasses.

Yeah, I'm the same way. I have a really hard time getting through a whole bottle in one sitting.

I know many on this board will disagree, but...

Stop wasting your time and start drinking single malt Scotch.

I know bourbon, but I don't know anything about on-line international purchases and what the pricing may be accordingly.

But if I correctly read your info about taxes, and try to back-engineer what a comparable US$ price might be per 750ml, your options might be slim.
Perhaps...
Wild Turkey (russell's reserve or rare breed)
Four Roses single barrel
plain old Buffalo Trace
Wellers

I've seen your posts.....I am not going to recommend something only to have you come back and complain you feel ripped off.

Do your own research.....there are plenty of tasting notes online and you know what flavors you like.
