Yep. It allows the Bourbon to contract and expand in the oak casks when aging.

Default cheap gas is okay, good booze is a must

My choice is Woodford Reserve. Life is too short for bad booze.

I was re-reading this thread when I saw I had made a mistake in this post. As far as I know there is no Elijah Craig Black, and I meant to say Evan Williams Black. Both are Heaven Hill products, but the Evan Williams and Elijah Craig lines are very different.

I love to sip my corn. Long time enthusiast. I don't really care that much for the wheaters, but I too love Knob Creek, WT 101(a staple), Rare Breed(or anything that Jimmy Russell makes), any of the Van Winkles, and many others. One of my new favorites is Four Roses Single Barrel. For the money, I don't think there is a better whiskey available.

I gotta tell ya, I love my bottle of Rare Breed so much that it makes up for it, but I bought a bottle of "Russel's Reserve" that I had high hopes for, and they weren't met. I'm not saying it was BAD bourbon, but I didn't think it was nearly as good as plain old 101.

I KNEW bourbon had to be healthy!

Jim Beam - really do like it! (Jack Daniels Single Barrel is really good! - Is that bourbon or whiskey?)

All bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon.

Whiskey is a fairly loose term, generally a spirit made from grain. Bourbon, on the other hand has a very specific definition.

So look at it this way, Jack Daniels is whiskey - umbrella term. Getting more specific, it is American whiskey (as is bourbon, rye, corn whiskey and probably some others) and it is also Tennessee Whiskey. (one of 2, actually)

Then there are the European whiskey/whisky types; mainly Irish and Scotch. And Canadian, and probably some others.

Ok, so the JD single barrel is whiskey but not bourbon, right?
