I am looking for someone in the Albuquerque area who fixes cars (possibly on the side). I'm mostly looking for someone who is honest and won't try to take advantage of me and charge me for a bunch of things that I don't need. Anyone know of someone like this?

I like Midwest Auto Electric... the guy works at Sandia Labs/KAFB during the day and works on cars at nights and on weekends. He's off of Quincy and Menaul.

I found an excellent mechanic on Craig's List. He's in Ventana Ranch, so if that's not too far from where you are, check out his link on craig's list under automotive. The title of his ad is "ASE ADVANCED MASTER AUTO TECH 26 YRS EXPERIENCE REPAIR AT FAIR PRICES"

He usually posts daily or every couple of days. He is a mechanic at a local dealership by day and then works from home on the side -- all makes & models. His prices are really a bargain. He once did some work for me for $350 that I was quoted $1000 at another auto shop. Every time I've used him I've saved a ton of money. I've referred him to friends who have also been very very pleased.

My perennial recommendation - Bobby Joe's Auto Repair on Quincy. Best ever, hands down.

Lighning Automotive & Truck Repair on Gibson-right before the VA is great. The owner promises the lowest price anywhere in the area, and they are quick, and don't preform unessecary actions on your vehicle.

Milo's automotive on Osuna! I still bring my car back to him even though I have moved away.
