Actually the swamp cooler is holding it's own in our house this year, even with the high temperatures these past couple of days. It can cool the house to 75, and if we turn on some ceiling fans, its not too bad.
He's pulling your leg. He just got a little 'elevated' due to the passing of a couple of hotties strolling through the Ghetto yesterday.
( It didn't help that they were licking ice cream cones at the time. )
And I thought I have just been running a low-grade fever all these years!
I'm headed to a little island in the north Atlantic for a week so I will get a little respite from the heat. Hopefully by the time I get back the high temps will have returned to normal.
Tip one: Our 2,000 square foot home in ABQ was cooled by a large Champion evaporative cooler. It usually worked well...but there is that time period in the middle of the Albuquerque summer where it gets really hot. Over 100 degrees on a daily basis. Our cooler just wasn't cutting it and we were miserable. I tried synthetic pads, cardboard pads, aspen pads...nothing was cutting it.
We don't want the cost of refrigerated air, so I got online and found a blog from a guy in Phoenix who did extensive tests of different cooler pads and the resulting temperatures.
His suggestion: Aspen Snow-Cool pads, DOUBLED. That's right...Instead of one pad-per-side, take two of those pads and stuff them in each panel of your evaporative cooler. It's inexpensive (each pad is about $4-$5 at Home Depot or Lowe's) and they fit in the panel with a little effort.
Out of desperation, I tried this, and we were really surprised at the results! The house was noticeably cooler immediately. I've been telling everyone I know about this, hoping it offers relief. So far this summer hasn't been as hot as the past few, but the hottest days are yet to come. I hope this helps you.
