I'm moving to ABQ in 3 weeks from Boston. I found a place that looks great from the pictures (I won't be able to see in person until the day I move in).

The apartment is at Lead SE and Terrace Rd SE. I know that is near UNM, but can anyone tell me if this area in particular is considered to be part of the less desirable undergrad housing area? Is it likely to be loud at all hours? I know it's close to Nob Hill, please give me some insight as to the vibe of the area.

I have to decide on it today. Thanks for your help!

How old are you and what brings you to ABQ? That's right between UNM and CNM so it would be convenient for both of those schools. Also you'll be near most everything down there around Central. I'm turning 33 and personally wouldn't want to live there, but then again I don't do anything near this part of town other than going to bars etc

That is definitely the 'Student Ghetto'. Don't think it is particularly 'loud' but you will find all that goes with living all around early 20 year old college students.

I would say that the Student Ghetto is actually pretty mixed demographically. While it is the highest concentration of twenty-somethings in the city, they don't make up the majority. That is excepting a few individual blocks of the neighborhood (200 block of Columbia comes to mind) that are dominated by cheap apartments mainly housing students.

That said, University Heights and Silver Hill (where your address is located) is pretty quiet. Not as quiet as a middle class cul-de-sac, but definitely quiet for a neighborhood of its ilk.

Also, Lead is a throughfare, so expect a lot of moderate speed traffic. That's where the bulk of your noise will be coming from. Not so much drunken revelers.
