My daughter is getting married very soon. They have decided to do a "sand unity ceremony" instead of the unity candles. Her fiancee' is from New Mexico, so we are trying to get about a pound of fine sand from your area. We will pay all shipping cost. Is there anyone who could help us?

If its just a pound that's needed go to your local aquarium shop and buy a bag.

Sounds easier than it might be to do..

Recommend this thread gets moved to the New Mexico forum.. some White Sands (from outside the monument) would be probably the best sand. Most play sand or fine sand one would buy at an Albuquerque hardware store is very likely to have originated out of state.

If you need one pound of fine brown sand from the West Mesa area of Albuquerque for your daughters wedding then send the mailing address to me by Direct Message (dm), I will mail it to you for free...

Home depot and Lowes both carry sand. So do some WalMarts.

Hellooooo.. it's for the symbolism- not just sand for sands sake.
That's nice of you, Rich :0)

Gotta add my 2 cents. I've never heard of a sand unity ceremony, but I think the symbolism is powerful. Beautiful.

There is nothing in sand as uniquely New Mexican as WHITE SAND (pure gypsum) from the Great White Sands. There is a place where it blows right up to US-70 and anyone can stop and gather a pail full without violating the rules of the National Monument.
