I am currently living in the Saratoga area but would like to relocate to somewhere south of Albany, within 30-40 minutes of the city. I am originally from NYC and would like to be closer to it.
I am looking for a family-friendly area with things to do within walking distance, like playgrounds, some shopping, maybe a YMCA. I need to have a sidewalk and I don't want to live in a rundown old factory town. Any suggestions?
Oh, and we need to rent a place first, and will be looking to buy within the next few years.

The general Chatham area might be worth looking into although many of the locals feel that their county has been over-run by NYC people. Check into it and see what you find. I might be off-base.

Maybe the Bethlehem area. I believe Delmar might be perfect: Delmar, New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
