Just wanted to let people know that Alive at Five is starting up for 2009.

Every Thursday from June 4 - August 13 from 5pm - 8pm at the Albany Riverfront Park at the Corning Preserve. From the website:

"Alive at Five has kept downtown Albany's spirits high after work on Thursdays throughout the summer for 20 years. The stage comes alive with music from national, regional and local artists; each night plays host to a different genre of music. The weekend kicks-off with an early start, as many of Albany's professionals, community members and friends enjoy the diverse musical talent presented during the series.

The music is not the only form of entertainment at Alive at Five as great crowd participation, dancing and people watching all make for a unique blend of concert atmosphere and hometown block party fun. Attendees of Alive at Five can also sample an array of summer favorites such as ice-cold beer, fresh squeezed lemonade, cotton candy and delicious BBQ from some of the area's favorite local vendors. Join us in the fun and music of this wonderful series that is a signature event and a summer staple in the Capital City of Albany, New York. Free."

It kicks off with Blues Traveler -

June 4 ~ OPENING NIGHT
Blues Traveler

"Grammy Award winning Blues Traveler doesn’t need too much introduction. The founding members consisting of New Jersey teenagers began playing as high-school friends and quickly earned a local reputation for their high-energy, heavily improvisational live shows. Out of eight studio albums and four live discs, six of them certified Gold or Platinum, this group has a combined world wide sale of more than 10 million units, including the band’s best known single “Run-Around”, the longest-charting radio single in Billboard history."

Good post Zalman B!!

This is the kind of thing one should really take advantage of. Any of you newcomers in the Capital District looking to get out and have some fun -
now is your chance! Similar to Live at 5; Wednesdays at the Empire State Plaza (not every week - so check on line or TU) also has some great shows &
festivals. July 8th at the Plaza is the Food Festival and there is always a great music line-up for that.

(Hope I didn't just derail your thread Zalman, )

I remember a few summers ago one of my favorite bands played there. Great place! :] Albany is a bit out of my way from where I am but I'm trying to round up some of my friends to go to Alive at Five.
