Yep, pretty cool! Around 18 mushers have GPS tracking devices this year. The rest didn't want to give up their "secret" resting places...lol!

You bet! Last year I got to see it all "up close". The village I lived in was a checkpoint (McGrath) and we volunteered. The mushers are some of the nicest people you'd ever meet and really care about their dogs. One of our jobs was to cook and serve food to them. They'd come in beat- but you can bet the dogs were fed and taken care of first before a musher came in to get food and rest for himself.

Default Funny Story

My friends and I had the pleasure of attending a lunch at Martin Buser's house before last years race. It was a great time and Martin and his family couldn't have been nicer. His wife Kathy is working with a bush pilot this year to fly the race check point to check point with a hand full of people this year. I had a invite, but not enough cash...dang it.

This is a article that made me laugh all over again. Last year was the test run of the GPS tracker program for the racers. Martin pulled a quick one during his mandatory 24hr stop and put it on one of the supply planes...lol His team seemed to be going 130Mph the wrong direction!

Fun little read from the perspective of the racers on these gps units...can't say that I blame them much. It does seem that it would take a bit of the strategy out of it year to year.

I'm rooting for Martin and Dee Dee. They were so friendly when we were at their homes I don't think I could cheer on anyone else!
