Yeah, I know who Ozzie is, the true Satan's spawn. But I was labelled as such in the '80's and somehow or another, it always has come back to haunt me. So I may or may not have gotten via Ozzie, but I bear it proudly, as it explains away some of my worst traits. Or it helps to explain..., never mind.

LOL

Made it through our first winter here...
Been through two cheap cars - a Suburban - died on the Glenn on the Palmer Hay Flats - and my
wife's Legacy - also died on the Glenn near Eagle River... My old Loyale is still running (240,000
miles - bought from an AlaskaAirlines stewardess who gave me some free salmon with the car all for
$600...!).
Everyone's been really kind. Neighbor's plowed our drive several times. Someone from work gave
my wife there son's old car for a token $100.
My son's doctors are amazing. His school is awesome (Sherrod Elementary).
I have a view of Pioneer Peak from the hospital where I work (MatSu Regional) and the staff are
great fun and the pay is awesome.
I went back to London for a week in February.... 32,000 people per square mile....!!!!
Horrible.
Back in Alaska the stress just vanished.
One person per square mile.
The Respiratory Therapist at work had a t-shirt made especially for his trip back to see family in
Tennessee. It said: "Alaska. Because civilization sucks."

Lots of moose.
No bears yet.
Hoping to get out and about more this summer. Still not been to the Lake.
So far, only been as far north as Talkeetna and as far south as Girdwood....
Shameful, I know. But I'm working on it.
The wife loves it here. The kids love it. Best thing we ever did.

It looks remote - but Palmer has all the conveniences - two supermarkets - Safeways (Carrs) and
Fred Meyers. Walmart is a few miles away (far enough, but close enough...). The utility companies
are all locally owned - Matanuska Electric; Matanuska Telephone; Enstar Natural Gas (cheap - the
gas bill for the entire cabin never ran more than $100 a month all winter and we were toasty warm
with a Toyo downstairs and a space heater up in the loft). The worst thing has been the wind.
75 mph winds did some damage a month or so ago. The noise is the worst thing and the static
electricity. We had to sleep downstairs one night because all the caulking on the logs was popping
because the wind was that strong and we thought the windows would blow in. But they didnt.
No Northern Lights. Low solar flare activity this year, apparently. But some amazing skies, all the
same...
