Well Palmer isn't the wilderness, but still a pretty nice place to live.

Congrats on your first winter...!

What a beautiful cabin, English_Nurse! Did you have any protection from the winds when they were howling through?

I'm planning on building my cabin on Deadman just as soon as I win the Ice Classic...

Seriously, this first winter has just been about getting up here and getting settled.
This year I'm hoping to get a used snowmachine so I can head out to the lake sometime
next winter.
It's like wine. You can't rush it. You have to let it sit a while...

English Nurse - congratulations on your first winter up here. I love your house, your Youtube video, the pictures.

I moved to Juneau from Tennessee two months ago, and can totally relate to much of your experiences - buying cheap cars (so far so good ), renting a cabin in the woods, realizing that there's no-one to call if it all hits the fan, worries about bringing family here.

It's working out one piece at a time from this end - all this building-a-new-life stuff. SO glad that it seems to be working out for you too.

Best wishes for a beautiful spring for your family.

You too Juneaubound! Thanks for your comments. It's heartening that so many people are community-minded up here. The effect is that we are more inspired to help out wherever we can
- which is usually in the form of shovelling snow...
It seems to be a good place to bring up children.
As for used cars - I learnt that the Subaru is so reliable because it is the only make of car with a
'boxer' engine. Google it if you're a geek like me and are interested. They just go and go. The old
1991 Loyale I bought for $600 when I arrived last year has just refused to die.
Glad your move to Juneau is working for you!

Well if you need some help getting set up for the cabin construction, would be glad to give you some pointers and maybe help depending on what and when you start to move stuff. I have a lumber sled for hauling supplies for building a cabin and such.

English and Juneaubound congrats on making your Alaska dreams into reality. And for finding them everything you wanted.
English I watched your videos, you have a lovely family. The kids are so happy playing in the snow. Love the bear tracks one.
