There is a small parking lot on the bluff right at the end of the runway for Anc Int Airport. Go down Northern Lights Blvd and it'll be on your right. There must have been 100 cars stuffed in that thing and people everywhere last night. There was just so much airtraffic from Elmendorf that the streaks of light ruined most of my pictures.
Might also be good up Omally Road up around flat top parking lot?

Downtown this morning

The great one

Looks like Rance was out at Point Woronzof. I drove up to Glenn Alps and there were dozens of folks up there last night although the lights weren't as good as the night before. Google Glenn Alps for directions. This from last night.

That is a great pic. Could be on a postcard or in a Gallery

Unfortunately, out here we see the lights and most of the time they are white,no less spectacular. The last couple of nights, the moon has made it hard to see them. Next year it will be different for me when I am in my new cabin up North.

That is seriously one of the best AB pictures I have ever seen. Fantastic!

Thanks! If you get a chance check out Ray's photos (RayinAK). He lives up near Fairbanks where the light show is much better. He's been posting here as well as over on the Photo forum.

Yep, Ray's pictures are amazing! The thing that struck me about your photo above is the pink diffused lighting in the snow lent a real "celestial quality" to the picture. In that other-worldliness the other photographer in frame was almost anachronistic, which made it more interesting. Whether or not it was an accidental composition or not, you really got something compelling.

When I took the shot the other photographer was just in the way and I figured I'd just crop them out. Turned out fine...

The red light is from the lights of Anchorage. Can't see them when looking but when the exposure is long at about 30 seconds they are a nice addition.

Are there any time limitations to those places (like, closed after 10-11pm or something like that?)
also, "down Northern Lights" - meaning, west? I thought about going that way last night... should have went!
