We are looking at going to somewhere warm over the holiday break, never too early to plan.

Any suggestions??

Oh and there will be 6 of us, 2 teens, and a 10 and 7 year old.

How about the gulf coast? They could use the tourism $$$ and I bet it would be affordable. But Hawaii sure sounds nice....

Age-wise, Orlando Florida with all of the theme parks. It can get cold at night (near freezing), but be shorts weather by afternoon to us up here. Locals will be in down parkas.

If you go to Hawaii, you will see more Alaskan's there you haven't seen at home in years.

Down here in the Gulf where I am working the oil spill, the tourist have been run off by the press. The beaches are pretty clean and there is no crowds from Mississippi to Florida. The Hotels are begging for bookings and the money you can save on doing stuff is really good.

But for me, I like being home during the winter. It gets really cold, but I love to watch the Northern Lights at night, chopping wood (mostly now shoveling coal), plowing snow with the four wheeler and snow machining. As rule, January is a bit cold for flying because you spend so much time preheating the airplane, but spring is great for ski flying.

I like Orlando with a couple of days at Vero Beach. We've done Phoenix quite a bit too.

Hawai'i. It can be a really cheap vacation- airfare is under $400 RT from Anchorage, once you get there, prices are lower than AK for a lot of things, and if you GET THE HECK out of Honolulu, it's so nice and relaxed!

We went to Maui a year ago, and saw the same two tourists driving around the island. The camping is cheap/free in most places, and it's perfect for the winter!

I love the NL's too! But 2 years in Anchorage now and not a sign of them. It was a sad day when my kids came home from school, telling me about their art project, to do a chalk painting of the Northern Lights and my 2 kids were the ONLY ones that had actually seen them!!! Can you imagine?
