can't threads older than a year or so be deleted or something? it's annoying when someones pulls a thread from 3 years ago and then other people start commenting on it and the orginial thread is probably obsolete now.

If you think a thread is obsolete, you can reply with new information that brings it up to date and prevents newcomers from being misled. If there's no way to do that, consider reporting a post in it that contains obsolete information, so the mod team can take a look at whether the thread should be closed.

True, because one may get a 'tsk tsk' for starting a new thread on an already old (started) topic...
Some threads do become obsolete, and are sometimes closed, but they are seldom deleted. Some of the threads over a year old still contain information which is worthwhile for example some of the historical information threads. At what time do you consider a thread obsolete? It is not normally an obsolete thread. Sometimes threads get merged.
I just realized now that the first thread I referenced in reply, which is informative, is over a year old...

It also depends on the mod and just what the thread is about. for ex, I have closed old real estate threads as being out of date on prices and suggested someone start a new thread for current info. However, threads are not deleted just for being old. A lot of useful info is in the forums, even if it is old.

I think posting in old threads happens often because of the "Similar Threads" links at the bottom of the page when reading a thread. I used to click on those, start a reply, and then realize that the similar thread was an antique. Now I know to check the date any time I click one of those "Similar Threads" links.

Yep I learned the hard way on this one. I seldom read those "similar threads" for that very reason. . .

The problem (as I see it anyway), is that the thread page doesn't show the date the original post was made. You must remember to start at page one, and check the start date.
I belong to another forum that has the date of the original post under the thread title. Is it difficult to add?
The problem is when someone makes a post about what apartment complex to move to (or similar question), and then someone inexplicably responds 3 years later. Obviously the OP is long gone by then. It's dumb.
