Is there a way to report a thread that violates TOS without having to open the thread? I remember once I opened a thread so I can click on the report button but had to quickly exit as a video immediately started playing. I did not wish to contract a virus or be exposed to pornographic content (the title had given me clues that it would be inappropriate content). I just reported a thread in "Other Topics", which the title gives away the inappropriate content but I had to open the thread in order to report it. Isn't there another way to avoid opening the thread?

I fear to open some also... If it looks like it's against TOS report it. The mods will sort it out. It is helpful to be as sure as possible though. If they have less than 3 posts I think.. they shouldn't be posting links of any kind. It's what I've been told to the best of my recollection.

If you visit OT, you will see a thread about "video - boobs dancing" ... I was 99% sure that it would contain inappropriate content but I had to open the thread in order to report it. If I'm not sure about something, I always say "possible spam/advertizing/inappropriate content" and leave it up to the mods to investigate and determine if it actually violates TOS.

I viewed it and it wasn't in good taste but not bad as you might have guessed. The thing is this poster came to this forum and his/her first post out of the gate was a youtube..?? 1st post ..no links! BTW, a low post count member is a bit more suspect. But, remember everyone starts at post #1... seems like only yesterday....

I understand all this BUT there was a thread I reported a while back where the video started as soon as I opened the thread ... I was worried about contracting a virus so I immediately exited out and had to DM a mod that I knew, who promptly took care of it. The concern in this thread is how can we report threads that may violate TOS without having to open the threads because many of these spammers are slick, such as the one you viewed today who had a post count of 1 and was able to post a YouTube link.

Sorry, meant to say I reported it. You mean it was a short video in a JPG or whatever it's called? I don't think that can harm you. Or maybe it has no outside connection . CD's stuff likely protects you from that. It's not an off site thing like Youtube.

I don't know what the video was and it was at least a year ago but all I can recall was that the video started as soon as I opened the thread. I'm sure CD has a way to protect its users from viruses and other stuff but these spammers and hackers are pretty slick in trying to circumvent security on websites. Anyways, we are getting off track here.

The question I had was is there a way to report a thread without opening it?

The only way I know is the method you used: sending a DM to a Mod.

Well opening a thread doesn't open a Youtube. I assumed you meant those short little movie-like JPG's. Which are simply a loop. They are running at all times you are viewing..no action necessary on your part. The post in question was a Youtube Chatty. You must click on it to view it playing. Now if the embed doesn't work or you click on the link.. that takes you back to Youtube itself and maybe you're more vulnerable. Someone with more Comp savvy than me would know I'm sure.

As you've suggested, feel free to send a DM to the forum mod and ask him/her to investigate it. Just include a note stating why you're DMing instead of reporting, so that the mod won't respond with "Did you report it?"
