There are a whole bunch of people from other states that like to bash California.
I don’t think any of their areas have as many unique and beautiful places as we do here.
They hate us because they anus.

Just up the road is the Torrey Pines gliderport, which is a place I always take out of town visitors. There's nothing else quite like standing on a cliff above the ocean at sunset watching people glide by you on air currents over the water. Also close by and worth visiting are the outdoor art/sculptures.
Past the edit deadline for my post above. The last sentence should read, "Also close by and worth visiting are the outdoor art/sculptures on the UCSD campus."

Here's a link: https://stuartcollection.ucsd.edu/

And, a link to the Salk Research Institute visitor info: https://www.salk.edu/about/visiting-...ivate%20events.

Finally, Torrey Pines Glider Port: https://www.flytorrey.com/

I didn't mention this, but the Glider Port is just above San Diego's only nude beach, Black's Beach. You can't see anything from the Glider Port though -- lots of steps to go down (and up) if you want a close up look. https://www.sandiego.org/explore/thi...cks-beach.aspx

I still remember my first visit to California, long before I even had an inkling that I'd meet and marry a California native. It was 1982 and I drove down 101 from Del Mar and came upon that long stretch where you see all of Torrey Pines - the cliffs, the ocean, the lagoon - just laid out before you like a mirage. It was one of the most beautiful sights I'd ever seen, and remains so today.

My husband sometimes still teases me that I only married him so that I could get out here and drive that stretch of road again (and again and again).

I live in another beautiful part of San Diego county now, but that view will always say "California" and "home" to me.

A lot of the hatred stems from, first, acknowledging the beauty and diversity of the state and, second, recognizing how the state is squandering it through awful public policy.

Bodie. Abandoned mining town. It’s really cool.

Little towns like Julian are fun, because you feel like you're far far away from urban California.
