| The purpose of today's visit is to conduct a courtesy inspection of this elementary school foodservice operation as part of the Health Department's investigation of an increase in gastrointestinal illness in the student population attending this school. A discussion with the certified food manager finds the following: 1) There are 7 foodservice employees, including the certified food manager. None has reported illness with gastrointestinal symptoms in the last 3 weeks. 2) There are in place an effective employee health policy, a handwashing policy, and a no barehand contact with ready-to-eat foods policy. 3) Westfield High School is the commissary kitchen. 4) A school population of approximately 600 is served (breakfast and lunch). 5) Only unopened milk and yogurt items can be shared by students (items are placed in ice on a designated table in cafeteria).
