Description: Every pilot visiting the Outer Banks should sign in at least once at this historic location. At First Flight your stay is limited to 24 hours. This unattended 3,000-foot strip is maintained by the National Park Service. Since there are no lights, takeoffs and landings are permitted during daylight hours only. Reservations are not necessary, and a sign-up book is on premises. No fuel is available.

Description: On the south side of Colington Road, near the corner of US 158 at MP 8, a wooden building with a covered porch houses the chamber of commerce in Kill Devil Hills. This center offers free information that’s helpful to both visitors and permanent residents. It’s a clearinghouse for written and telephone inquiries, and the friendly staff gives information on activities, accommodations, and annual events.
