That doesn't really say much about cultural influence, because Hollywood makes movies for the whole world.

I referred to pop music.
American cultural influence is very strong in Russia, whether one means movies, pop music, or TV. I guess that's the point of the thread. Deny it all you want. As a matter of fact, I don't think the phenomenon is a positive one; but it's the way things go.

And I guess 36 is old if you're a Russian man whose life expectancy is a robust 60 ;-D

The thread is about music. And Russian teens still listen to Russian music mostly. If you see anything in my words that's not there - that's your problem.

For teens you are an old fart. Just like I am. And no, I'm not gonna die at 60 - and not at whatever the real number is today, not even close. 90 years is a bare minimum.

This makes me worry about the future of cultural diversity. Of course, on one hand it could just be a phase, and they will grow up and become more like their parents. After all the Beatles were pretty popular in Japan, I think right?

On the other hand, they may never grow out of it and might end up transmitting American culture to their children. By the time today's teenagers are the elders, American culture might be the only culture left.

Yeah, there is a hefty amount of American music here but the charts are still dominated by British music I'd say. One Direction and all that rubbish.

You wrote "Hollywood", which is generally connected with the movie industry.
Also, the thread is not about music.
So...

I don't so much worry about the UK listening to American music. It's when Chinese kids are only listening to American music that it starts to worry me that they will lose their culture once their parents and grandparents die off.

I think that's not a concern. Even if teens go through an "American pop culture" phase, I'm sure they will start to identify more closely with cultural aspects of their own country. In short, no matter where people hail from, they will eventually figure out that Justin Bieber sucks

Generally, but not always.

Maybe you should read the first post again?

I totally agree! And not only because I think so - that's what I witness.

Although the country as whole is quite "Americanized" in some ways, Germany's latest TOP 10 music charts only have one American artist (Rihanna) in it in contrast to five German, two British, one Korean and one French artist.
Hitlist Germany - Top 100 - Alle Musikvideos - Chart - MTV.de

At the moment it also seems that modern German and British music (esp. indie, house etc.) are more popular among the "hip" and "urban" youth population here than American pop like Rihanna, Lady Gaga or Beyoncé.
