Cabrillo Bikeway

The city of Santa Barbara is filled with organized bike routes that make riding easy for experienced cyclists, as well as those visiting the city and renting bikes for a unique method of touring the town. What used to be the Cabrillo Bikeway is now called the Westside Santa Barbara Ride and takes visitors past the railroad tracks, beneath the freeway crossing of Highway 101, through Paseo Nuevo, along one-way couplet streets, through the Wentworth traffic calming area, past the Westside Playground, past the charter boats at Sea Landing, all the way to the three mile paved Cabrillo Beach Path. At Paseo Nuevo riders will enjoy a shopping area that runs for two blocks and includes the Nordstrom's and Macy's department stores. Also included on the ride is a pass by the Pershing Park area, the site of a proposed bike path that never came to be due to the wetlands in the area. Other bike routes in Santa Barbara include the Mountain Drive bike ride, the Goleta bike ride, the Santa Barbara Streets and Paths route, and two paths that take riders along the routes that were ridden in the film Sideways. The Westside Santa Barbara route is an excellent option for those looking for exercise and a chance to see some of the lesser known sites around the city.
