San Pablo Reservoir

Located in Santa Barbara and Contra Costa County, California is the San Pablo Reservoir. It is considered an "open cut terminal" for water storage. It is operated and owned by East Bay Municipal Utility. An earth dam was constructed in 1919 to block the El Sobrante and create a reservoir. It sits above Kennedy Grove and has a capacity of 38,600 acre feet. The watershed is 23.37 square miles. To the west of the reservoir is San Pablo Dam Road, which allows guests to arrive at the watery lake.

San Pablo Reservoir will drain into Briones Reservoir. Part of the water stored in the reservoir comes from San Pablo Creek and another portion from Pardee Reservoir. Pardee is located 100 miles east near the Sierra Nevada Foothills. Recreation is possible at the reservoir such as boating and fishing. It is $6 a day for entrance into the park. There is a restaurant, gift shop, and marina for boat rental. Also onsite are picnic areas, a children's play area and boat ramp. Swimming and wading are not allowed at the reservoir because the water is used for drinking. Online 4-cycle engine boats are allowed on the lake to reduce gas contamination.
