In 1925, the Southwestern General Hospital was opened as a sanatorium for tubercular patients, and was then known as the Albert Baldwin Heath Resort. In 1936, it became a hospital and in 1937 was renamed to Southwestern General Hospital. In the 1990s, a group of local investors bought the hospital and made several renovations in the levels of services and equipment of Southwestern General. Today, the hospital’s services include pediatric, laboratory, general medical/surgical, a 24-hour emergency department, inpatient and outpatient surgery, an intensive care unit, obstetrics, and physical therapy.
