Description: The El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) is the city’s largest, with some 62,000 students attending school in 88 buildings. EPISD’s schools include 13 high schools, 17 middle schools, 59 elementary schools, 6 magnet schools, and a handful of specialty and auxiliary schools. The six magnet programs include Capt. John L. Chapin High School, an engineering and science magnet school; Silva Health Magnet, which has a curriculum focused on health and the sciences; the Sandra Day O’Connor Criminal Justice/Public Service Academy at Austin High School; Connecting Worlds/Mundos Unidos at El Paso High School, which is a dual language program focusing on bicultural studies; the Academy for International Business and Public Affairs at Bowie High School in South El Paso, which focuses on international business and public affairs education; and the International Baccalaureate Diploma at Coronado High, which offers the chance for students to participate in a rigorous program that guarantees entry into some of the finest universities around the world.
