Education - Dallas, Texas

Education - Education And Child Care

Finding places to gain an education in North Texas couldn’t be easier. The menu of colleges and universities in and around Dallas and Fort Worth suits any and all appetites for learning, with hundreds of options ranging from associates’ degrees to doctorates.

The list of more recognized university names starts with Southern Methodist University in Dallas, initially founded in 1911 by the Texas Educational Commission, which was composed of representatives from the five annual conferences of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in Texas. Perkins School of Theology is among SMU’s attractions, too. It opened with an enrollment of 706 in 1915 and is now a beautiful collection of 73 buildings, enrolling 9,000 students.

Thirty-odd miles west in Fort Worth, Texas Christian University grew from Add-Ran College, founded in 1873. In 1914, Brite College of the Bible was added at TCU, and it remains a popular entity called Brite Divinity School.

The two universities competed in athletic contests in the old Southwest Conference for several decades; today, SMU competes in Conference USA and TCU is in the Mountain West Conference. Students interested in nursing, nutrition, ranch management, and theology will find TCU a good fit, and those looking at dance, fine arts, and theology will like SMU. Both schools have exceptional MBA programs, and SMU is known for its law school, as well.

The University of Texas at Arlington went through a boom in the 1970s, making it a place that now provides exceptional education in architecture, biomedical engineering, social work, nursing, and international studies. Other specialized programs in the area include the law school at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth; music, interior design, and hotel and restaurant management at the University of North Texas in Denton; and education degrees at the Univeristy of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University in Denton.

Several of the public school systems for kids in kindergarten through 12th grade have earned high marks. If you’re in the market for a private school education for your child, your choices are numerous among parochial schools. And when it’s time to put the little one into child care, some excellent choices await parents who want socialization and preliminary educational stimulus for their toddlers and preschoolers.
