Description: Here’s one of the coolest lodgings to open in Dallas in recent years, although it’s not entirely new. This laid-back, mid-century-modern hotel made its original debut in 1946 immediately east of downtown in Oak Cliff and was the work of renowned architect Charles Stevens Dilbeck, whose handiwork is seen in the neighborhood and in the Park Cities. The Belmont got new life a couple of years ago with a magnificent renovation, delivering 68 chic rooms and suites in four buildings, the Moderne Building, the Garden Rooms, the Bungalows, and the Loft Suites; rooms have views either of the pretty gardens or the Dallas skyline. No two are alike, but all are rich with local art and marvelous retro furnishings and colorful fabrics. Ask about rooms with sunken tubs, adjoining bedrooms, or private terraces. The BarBelmont is a neighborhood lounge where you sip wine or martinis, enjoy afternoon snacks, and listen to live music on Thursday evening. Smoke is the hotel restaurant, a snappy redo of the old coffee shop, complete with a great cocktail and wine menu, as well as a lusty Sunday brunch. There’s a beautiful swimming pool on-site, as well as a superb health club and meeting rooms.
