Category: Tours & Attractions
Address: 143 Beale St.

Description: Listen to live blues while savoring some down-home Southern cooking, like barbecue and catfish, at B. B. King’s. For an unusual twist, try the fried green tomatoes—6 graham-cracker-and-cornmeal-crusted fried green tomatoes drizzled with basil oil and served with carmelized onion marmalade, herb cream cheese, and strawberry preserves. We highly recommend the catfish, fried in cornmeal batter. Here’s a tip: Skip the tartar sauce and eat your catfish with hot sauce, the way they do in Mississippi, where B. B. King grew up. B. B. King’s is open 7 days a week, with live entertainment nightly.

Address: 52 S. Second St.

Description: The entrance to this world-famous barbecue restaurant is actually in the alley across from the Peabody Memphis’s main entrance. The Rendezvous is noted for its ribs and pork. Many consider a slab of ribs at the Rendezvous the holy grail of barbecue; others wonder what all the fuss is about. We will tell you that the Rendezvous specializes in dry ribs—that is, seasoned with dry-rub spices, not everyone’s cup of tea. You can slather on the sauce yourself when your plate arrives, however. Give them 24 hours’ notice and the Rendezvous will prepare a real treat—5 mouth-watering pounds of barbecued shrimp served at your table in a big, old iron skillet.
