This spacious sports bar features bar stools, comfortable booths and high-top tables, as well as some of the best bar food we’ve consumed. (Insider’s Tip: Sample the World Series pizza, a bold barbecued chicken delight, or order the mammoth burgers, or the buffalo meatloaf that’s out of this world.)

The first floor casino has huge windows, gorgeous chandeliers, and a wide staircase that, from the bottom, seems to go up forever. It’s decorated with lovely wainscoting and wallpaper, and wicker and Victorian furniture. You can eat in Bully’s Restaurant, have a drink in the bar, and play the many slot machines.

Address: 360 Main St.

Description: About a half mile north of Deadwood’s core historic district sits Cadillac Jack’s. The facade makes the complex appear to be a block of a half-dozen historic brick buildings like the ones you might find farther up on Main Street; the interior, however, is one large gaming floor with slot machines, blackjack, and live poker tables. Like many of the larger casinos, Cadillac Jack’s offers regular drawings, contests, and giveaways. The resort’s distinguishing features include its convention facilities, which few other hotels or casinos in Deadwood can match, and a small, sports bar on the main floor.

City: Deadwood, SD
Category: Nightlife
Telephone: (605) 578-3670, (800) 584-7005
Address: 709 Main St.

Description: Two cars a month are always up for grabs by lucky winners at the Silverado, which is appropriate because it occupies a building that was formerly an automobile showroom. This is a big, wide-open space with beautiful decor, customer-friendly staff, one of the largest restaurants in town, the better buffet, and plenty of gaming action, both at tables and at machines.

14. Tin Lizzie Gaming & Garden Café

City: Deadwood, SD
Category: Nightlife
Telephone: (605) 578-1715, (800) 643-4490
Address: 555 Main St.

Description: Seniors are the primary patrons here, and the Tin Lizzie works hard to get them. Visitors over age 60 get price breaks on everything from food to gaming tokens, and there are regular special events in their honor that usually feature free food and giveaways. The building is relatively small compared to other Main Street venues, though the owners have managed to pack in plenty of classic car memorabilia. There’s a cafe and snack bar, as well as a small stage for occasional live entertainment. One of the more popular musical groups in Deadwood usually plays here. A tribute to the Beatles, the Abbey Road Band has a strong following in town, even among the younger crowd, and are consistently noted for their striking similarity (in sound and appearance) to the Fab Four.

15. The Buffalo-Bodega Complex

City: Deadwood, SD
Category: Nightlife
Telephone: (605) 578-9993
Address: 622 Main St.

Description: A century ago, the Bodega was a stage stop. But, the real action happened upstairs in the cribs where soiled doves entertained a succession of miners, mule skinners, and merchants. It’s far tamer in the Bodega today with an upscale sports lounge and flat-screen TVs. But, at night, the neighboring Buffalo Saloon & Steakhouse, a substantial roadhouse with summer seating outdoors and in, can get rocking amid a festive atmosphere, great food and beverages, live music, and some of the funniest people in town. Just ask for Ole.
