Description: At this colorful 2.25-acre full-service garden center, you can find a wide array of trees, shrubs, and plants, from cacti to kale, with plenty of unusual varieties for gardeners seeking something a little different. Jericho also sells pottery, yard art, pond plants, bird feeders, tools, and other garden accessories. Although it’s a relatively young garden center, opened in 2005, the owner and most of the expert staff here are from the now-closed Rowland Nursery, which had a long and popular reputation. Owner Rick Hobson appears on TV and radio gardening shows, and the nursery hosts gardening seminars. There is also a branch at the Village Mercantile in Corrales (3675 Corrales Road, 505-897-9328). Both stores are open seven days, year-round.

Description: This large nursery covers 10 acres and is a family business run by owner Chang An since 1980. It offers a wide selection of bedding plants, trees, shrubs, native varieties, and tropical houseplants. The store offers a good selection of garden tools and indoor and outdoor garden accessories, ornaments, and gifts, including pottery, fountains, and birdbaths. Locals enjoy the good service from “Team Osuna” staff, who will also diagnose plant problems if you bring a photo or sample. There is also a “plant interiorscape” service for businesses and homes. Description: Specializing in native southwestern plants and trees, Plants of the Southwest has its own farm in Galisteo, and harvests its own non-GMO (genetically modified organism) seeds, which are also for sale. Seed selections include wildflowers, grasses, chiles, herbs, and vegetables. The business started from its Santa Fe location in 1976. Although not the largest nursery, this is a popular spot among North Valley gardeners, not least for its knowledgeable employees who are always helpful in making recommendations.
