Health Care - St. Louis, Missouri

Health Care - Health Care And Wellness

The St. Louis area is home to more than 50 hospitals, and its health-care facilities are among the best in the nation. Both Washington and Saint Louis universities have medical schools—which makes St. Louis one of only a few cities in the country that has two major medical schools. Two outstanding pediatric hospitals, St. Louis Children’s and Cardinal Glennon Children’s, take care of the region’s tiniest patients.

Many patients from outside the metropolitan area as well as from other countries look to St. Louis for medical care, making St. Louis’s facilities competitive with the likes of such prestigious medical institutions as the Mayo Clinic and the Sloan-Kettering Institute. In 2000 BJC International Health Services (IHS) was formed to help attract international patients to St. Louis and assist them through the health care process, and the medical schools of Washington and Saint Louis universities have also helped to promote St. Louis as a major health center.
