Description: Maryville University was founded in 1872 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart, but it has evolved into an independent, coeducational university that offers 50 undergraduate programs, ranging from accounting to e-marketing to music therapy. Master’s degrees offered at the school include education, nursing, rehabilitation counseling, business and health administration, and occupational and physical therapy. The university’s 3,500 students, about half of which are undergraduates, includes more than 1,000 “Weekend College” students and a few hundred graduate students. Maryville has two coed residence halls and student apartments on campus that can accommodate 600 students. Classes here are kept small—traditionally averaging about a dozen students each—and the on-campus Academic Success Center and Advising Center offer individualized academic consultation and career exploration.
