Description: Calvert Hall College was the first Christian Brothers school in the country, established in 1845 by the first American Christian Brother who was himself barely out of seminary at 17 years old. The first year it was in operation, the school had 100 students. In operation for more than 150 years and at its 33-acre campus in Towson for about 40 years, this all-boys college preparatory school serves approximately 1,200 students today. Academically competitive, Calvert Hall also has a full complement of arts and athletics. The Activities Center, for instance, houses art studios, learning resource center, and its swimming pool and weight training room. Calvert Hall’s marching band is as well known as its football team.

Description: Founded in 1873 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame to complement the Institute of Notre Dame, NDP opened in 1874 as the Notre Dame Collegiate Institute for Young Ladies on what was then wilderness acreage where the College of Notre Dame now stands. At its current campus on Hampton Lane, NDP offers a competitive, college preparatory curriculum to more than 740 girls in grades 6 through 12. NDP boasts an active social service program that includes the students’ working with abused children at Villa Maria, spending time with patients at AIDS hospices, and working with Habitat for Humanity, among other projects. Religious study is required for all students in all grades. College preparatory, including more than 160 courses (25 advanced placement) are offered in grades 9-12.
